Let's face it, sitting around in pain, not being able to do much can get boring. Recovering from surgery sitting around vs every day chronic illness sitting around are different. When its daily, you can at least move a little here and there but when you've had surgery, that's not really an option for the first few days/1-2 weeks and mentally it can be exhausting, especially in the hospital.

Take an online course
Plan for things you want to do after surgery such a holiday or recipies you want to try etc
